Medieval Rhodes

The main streets and squares of the medieval city throng with tourists. And with good reason. They are charmingly, well, medieval.

Even so, it is possible to find a few treasures in momentary quiet. The ruins of a Byzantine cathedral, a small church getting ready for Easter, the atelier of an ikon painter.

A view of the sea through a city gate, a quiet street curving away through a gateway, a beautiful doorway.

Men working up in the masts of a boat, and, unexpectedly, a moving Holocaust memorial. (It says, "Never forget: In eternal memory of the 1604 Jewish martyrs of Rhodes and Cos who were murdered in Nazi death camps".)
