Oslo: June 22-23

In Oslo we visited our friends Anita Andresen and Geir Skogheim and their beautiful children Emilie and Christina. Anita was once our au pair for our children when we lived in Texas, and it's our great pleasure to know her now as a wife and mother and friend, and to meet her wonderful family. Here are all six of us at a restaurant:

And here are pictures of Anita and Geir, Anita and the girls, and of Christine, who walked with us in the rain all day and whose joyful good spirit was better than sunshine.

On our first day, we walked all around the old city of Oslo in the pouring rain. It was a beautiful city, and though we got soaked, the walk was fun. Here are pictures of the waterfront, a flower market, a great arcade, and a fountain. And views over the harbor from the old fort.

We had hoped that the rain would stop by the next day, but it was not to be. Never mind! We donned rain gear and headed out to an open-air folk museum with examples of buildings of many kinds from many periods and areas of Norway. Here are some of them.

I think I may have this right. This is the room that Anita said reminded her of her grandmother's home (or was it a vacation home?).

Here is a charming detail from an otherwise rather dull administrative building:
